National dialogue on the protection of children in emergency situations in Senegal

Speaking on the sidelines of the national dialogue on the protection of children in emergency situations in Senegal, initiated by Cosydep, civil society and institutional players solemnly call on their firm determination to remain mobilised in support of all efforts to ensure the effective protection and promotion of children’s rights.

They therefore recommend that the public authorities systematically take into account the notion of the risk of a crisis or emergency situation arising in any public policy formulation process relating to the protection of children and the promotion of their rights. Constant the non-adoption of the Children’s Code and the law on the status of the Dara, the inadequacy of public funding for the child protection sector, the lack of ownership of children’s rights at community level, and the lack of data on the impact of global warming on children, especially girls, civil society actors are also calling on decision-makers, to speed up the adoption of the Children’s Code, which would be a major step forward for the country in terms of child protection, to also adopt the law on the status of dara, to revise the regulatory framework to adapt it to the digital environment, and to work resolutely to increase the share of public resources devoted to funding the child protection sector.
