DIGITAL RIGHTS PROTECTION: The CDP and RADDHO Commit
The President of the Personal Data Protection Commission (CDP), Mr. Ousmane Thiongane, accompanied by his colleagues, received in audience a delegation from the African Meeting for the Defense of Human Rights (RADDHO). This delegation was led by Mr. Malick Ciré Sy, President of the Board of Directors, in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Seck, Secretary General, Mr. Abdoulaye Diallo, Communications Officer, and Mr. Maguèye Sow, Technical and Financial Partnership Officer.
In his welcoming remarks, Mr. Thiongane welcomed this initiative by RADDHO, recalling the organization’s ongoing commitment to defending human rights, both in Senegal and in several other countries on the continent. He emphasized the convergence of the missions of the two institutions around the preservation of fundamental rights, particularly in the context of digital transformation. The Secretary General of RADDHO, Mr. Mohamed Seck, presented the organization’s main areas of intervention before expressing his desire to formalize a strategic partnership with the CDP. This partnership would aim to strengthen the protection of human rights in the digital environment.
The CDP, through the Head of the Legal Affairs Division, Mr. Marième Sangaré, presented the Commission’s missions.
During the discussions, several areas of collaboration were identified, including legal and judicial assistance to victims of online human rights violations; the dissemination of legal instruments and mechanisms related to digital technology and digitalization; digital citizenship education; and analysis of the impacts of artificial intelligence on digital rights.
The President of the CDP expressed his full willingness to engage in collaboration with RADDHO, with a view to defending human dignity in the digital age. He emphasized the need to develop appropriate legal responses to the challenges posed by emerging technologies. To this end, he reaffirmed the importance of raising awareness and supporting Senegalese citizens in controlling and protecting their personal data, while encouraging a responsible attitude regarding their processing and dissemination.
